Key Globus Terminologies
To better understand how Globus works, here are some key terms and their definitions:
Collection: A named location within a Globus endpoint where files are stored and managed. Collections can be personal (created with Globus Connect Personal) or institutional (managed by IT departments).
Endpoint: A system or storage location registered with Globus that allows data transfers. An endpoint can be a personal computer, a cloud storage service, or an institutional server.
Transfer Task: A user-initiated job that moves data between endpoints, running in the background and allowing monitoring.
Guest Collection: A shared space within an existing collection that grants external users access to specific data with assigned permissions.
Globus Connect Personal: A lightweight application that lets users create endpoints on their personal computers for data transfer.
