Globus Installation
Globus is a powerful and user-friendly service for transferring and sharing large amounts of data securely and efficiently. It is widely used in research and academic settings for managing data across multiple institutions and storage systems.
Logging in
To begin using Globus, you need an account and access to a Globus endpoint.
Steps to Get Started:
Log in to your Globus Account:
- Go to Globus' official website.
- Click on "Login" and select "Davidson College" from the dropbar menu with the list of organizations to sign in.
Installing Globus Connect Personal for Mac
Download the software from the Globus installation page.
- After installation, launch the application installer. Drag Globus Connect Personal onto the 'Applications' Folder shortcut.
- Navigate to your Applications folder, and launch Globus Connect Personal.
- Click on the "Log In" button, this will open up your default web browser to log in to your account. If you have already logged in before on the Globus website, it will display a Login successful page.
- Click on "Allow" to grant the application access to your desktop.
- To share your desktop files as a collection, provide a name and description to your collection. Then, click on next to finish creating a personal endpoint.
Warning
Do not check the High Assurance option on this step. Davidson College's Globus license does not cover this feature.
- Once the installation is complete, you can use the top menu bar as a shortcut to access your Globus account.
Using Davidson College Subscription
To use Davidson College endpoints and your own collections, you must first activate your subscription.
- On the main page of the globus web application, navigate to the Settings tab on the left and click on Subscriptions.You should see an invitation from Davidson College. Click the Find a Subscription button.
- Search for Davidson College in the search bar.
- Click on the Accept Invitation button to activate your Davidson College subscription.
- You will be prompted to enter your credentials again. The identity listed is your BannerID, and you should fill in your First and Last name as requested to complete your registration for the Davidson College subscription.
Verify Access to an Existing Endpoint (For Institutional or Shared Systems)
- Many universities and research institutions already have Globus endpoints set up.
- Check with t&i@davidson.edu or use the search feature in Globus to find an endpoint you have access to.
